Abstract: Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is a molecular biology technique used to amplify specific DNA fragments. The inventor of the PCR technique was Dr. Kary Mullis. He won the 1993 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his 1983 invention of PCR. In 2015, Richard Rothschild obtained a US patent for the detection of viral nucleic acid using PCR technology. From 2020 to 2022, all countries in the world have used nucleic acid detection methods to identify the infection of 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-ncov), but the error is large and the harm is serious.

Introduction to PCR (polymerase chain reaction) technology

Kary Mullis, inventor of PCR
The inventor of the PCR technique was Dr. Kary Mullis.
Kary Banks Mullis (December 1944 - August 7, 2019) was an American chemist who won the 1993 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his invention of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method for highly efficient replication of DNA fragments.

Kelly Mullis was born in 1944 in North Carolina, USA. He graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1966 and received a PhD in biochemistry from the University of California, Berkeley in 1973.
In 1983, Dr. Kelly Mullis proposed the idea of polymerase chain reaction.
In 1985, Kelly Mullis invented the polymerase chain reaction, or simple DNA amplification method. This means the birth of PCR technology.
On October 25, 1985, Kelly Mullis applied for a patent for PCR. On July 28, 1987, his application was granted (patent number 4,683,202).
The first academic paper on PCR was published by Kelly Mullis et al. in the journal Science on December 20, 1985.

Viral nucleic acid testing and Rothschild's assay patent
Experts in the United States applied PCR technology to develop a Nucleic Acid Test method to detect the virus. Nucleic acid testing is only one of many PCR tests.

FDA documentation acknowledges that PCR tests for the novel coronavirus 2019-nCoV were developed, tested, and calibrated without the availability of isolated 2019-nCoV samples.
